NewTechWood Shadowline is a fully capped composite cladding board engineered to replicate the clean horizontal lines of a traditional weatherboard without the maintenance demands of natural timber. Manufactured from 95% recycled materials and treated with no harsh chemicals, each board features a protective outer cap that renders it impervious to water absorption – meaning no warping, swelling, or moisture ingress over the life of the installation. The concealed fixing system holds boards flush against the wall framing while allowing airflow behind the cladding, and leaves no exposed fasteners on the finished face.
Available in a range of colours including the architectural Shou Sugi Ban charred-timber finish, Shadowline is suitable for exterior facades, interior feature walls, ceilings, kitchen splashbacks, fencing, and more. It is CodeMark® certified (CM40405) to NCC 2022 (Amendment 1) for external wall cladding applications within the certified scope, providing a clear compliance pathway for trade professionals specifying to BCA Volume Two.

Where to Use Shadowline - NewTechWood
Exterior Cladding
Shadowline is well suited to exterior residential facades on new builds and renovation projects where a horizontal weatherboard profile is specified. Its fully capped, moisture-resistant construction makes it a practical choice for coastal environments and high-humidity climate zones where natural timber is at risk of deterioration.
Interior Cladding
Shadowline is regularly installed on interior feature walls, ceiling linings, kitchen areas, outdoor entertainment spaces, and fencing - the profile's clean lines translate equally well indoors and out. It is suitable for both residential and light commercial applications and can be installed horizontally or vertically depending on the design intent. CodeMark® certification to NCC 2022 supports specification on projects requiring documented compliance evidence for external wall cladding under BCA Volume Two.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Shadowline made from?
Shadowline is a fully capped composite cladding board manufactured from 95% recycled materials – a blend of wood fibre and polymer. The full cap encases the board on all sides, preventing water absorption and providing UV resistance without the need for surface coatings, paint, or oil.
Does Shadowline have a BAL bushfire rating?
NewTechWood Shadowline does not carry a standalone BAL bushfire rating. BAL compliance is not an absolute product-level value – it depends on how the cladding is integrated into the complete wall system, including framing and substrate configuration. For projects in designated bushfire-prone areas, consult your building engineer or certifier to determine whether an engineered, fire-rated wall system is required. Contact Big River Group for further guidance.
What maintenance does Shadowline require?
Shadowline is designed to be low maintenance. No painting, oiling, sanding, or staining is required at any point during the product’s service life. Periodic cleaning with water – and a mild detergent where necessary – is recommended to keep the surface looking its best. The fully capped surface resists staining, mould, and pest damage.
How is Shadowline installed?
Shadowline uses a concealed fixing system that elevates boards off the wall joist system, allowing air circulation behind the cladding face. Boards are fixed using the secret fix clip system to the specified joist spacing – max span 500mm. Colour-matched trim kits are available for ends, corners, butt joints, and window flashings to complete the installation. Installation must follow the NewTechWood Shadowline Installation Guide (CodeMark edition) to maintain warranty coverage and NCC compliance.
Is Shadowline suitable for coastal environments?
Yes. The fully capped composite construction means Shadowline does not absorb moisture and is not subject to the swelling, warping, or salt-related deterioration that affects natural timber in coastal and high-humidity environments. It does not require periodic sealing or re-coating and is well suited to projects in coastal Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia. Contact your Big River trade centre to confirm suitability for your specific project conditions.
