OVERVIEW

About Castellation - NewTechWood

NewTechWood Castellation is Australia’s most extensive composite cladding range, offering three distinct castellated profiles designed to introduce depth, shadow, and architectural character to both interior and exterior surfaces. The three profiles – UH61 (5-rib, 25mm rib), UH58 (3-rib, 50mm rib), and UH93 (4-rib, 25mm–43mm rib) – each deliver a different visual scale and shadow line, giving architects and builders the flexibility to select a profile that suits the project’s design intent.

All profiles share the same board dimensions and are manufactured from 95% recycled composite materials with a protective coating applied during production that eliminates the need for oiling, staining, or painting. The deep ribbed surface creates three-dimensional visual effects that shift with natural light, and the fully composite construction resists warping, cracking, fading, and termite damage that affect natural timber over time.

APPLICATIONS

Where to Use Castellation - NewTechWood

Exterior

Castellation is a strong specification for exterior facades on residential and commercial projects where three-dimensional shadow lines and architectural character are part of the design brief. The ribbed profile delivers visual depth that shifts with natural light throughout the day, and the composite construction resists the warping, cracking, and UV degradation that affect natural timber in exposed conditions. All three profiles — UH61, UH58, and UH93 — perform reliably in coastal, tropical, and high-UV environments.

Interior

All three Castellation profiles are suitable for internal applications, enabling a cohesive design language across the interior and exterior of a project. Common interior uses include feature walls, bedroom walls, bathroom accents, ceiling linings, and entertainment area cladding. The fully finished surface requires no ongoing treatment, making it a practical as well as design-forward choice for interior specification.

Garages & Other Applications

Castellation is widely used on garage door surrounds, entry features, fencing, screening, and outdoor living areas. Its deep rib profiles add strong visual impact to these elements without the structural or maintenance considerations of natural timber. Colour-matched trim kits are available across all profiles to deliver a resolved, professional finish on corners, ends, and junctions regardless of the application.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Castellation cladding meet Australian building standards?

Yes. NewTechWood Castellation cladding is CodeMark® certified (CofC CM40405) to the National Construction Code 2022 (Amendment 1), BCA Volume Two, for external wall cladding applications within the certified scope. CodeMark® certification provides nationally accepted evidence of NCC compliance, supporting smoother project approvals and simplifying specification documentation for builders, certifiers, and architects.

What fire rating does Castellation cladding carry?

Fire and energy efficiency ratings for composite cladding are determined by how the product is integrated into the overall wall system — they are not absolute product-level values. NewTechWood composite cladding is designed to perform safely within a range of building systems, but engineered solutions or consultation with a building professional may be required to confirm compliance with specific fire performance requirements for your project.

What maintenance is required after installation?

Castellation cladding requires no painting, oiling, sanding, or staining at any stage of its service life. The protective coating applied during manufacture provides UV and weather resistance that maintains the board’s appearance over time. Periodic cleaning with water — and mild detergent where necessary — is all that is required to keep the cladding looking its best.

How is Castellation cladding installed?

Castellation boards can be installed horizontally or vertically and are compatible with standard woodworking tools — they can be cut, nailed, drilled, and screwed using the same equipment used for timber. Installation uses a concealed fixing system with a maximum joist span of 500mm. Colour-matched trim kits are available for ends, outside corners, inside corners, butt joints, and window flashings. All installations should follow the relevant NewTechWood Castellation Installation Guide to maintain warranty coverage and NCC compliance. Installation guides are available for the UH61, UH58, and UH93 profiles separately.

Can Castellation cladding be used on both residential and commercial projects?

Yes. All three Castellation profiles — UH61, UH58, and UH93 — are suitable for residential and commercial applications including external facades, feature walls, ceiling linings, interior cladding, fencing, and screening. The range is designed to transition between internal and external applications within the same project, supporting a cohesive design outcome across diverse spaces.
