OVERVIEW

About Secura Flooring

Secura™ Fibre Cement for Flooring

Secura Flooring is a lightweight cement composite structural flooring by James Hardie, made for wet and dry areas in 19mm interior and 22mm exterior sheets. Designed for durability and ease of installation, Secura™ Flooring provides a robust, moisture-resistant substrate ideal for tiles, vinyl, or carpet.

For Interior Flooring

Secura™ Flooring is a durable, lightweight structural flooring ideal for use as an internal substrate for tiles, vinyl, or carpet. It can help achieve a 7-star rating without needing modifications to the flooring structure. The moisture-resistant surface eliminates the need for full waterproofing outside shower areas, and unlike plywood or particle board, it allows direct tiling without underlay, preventing height differences between floor finishes. Being 24% less dense than compressed fibre cement, Secura™ can be installed up to 40% faster.

With easy installation, Secura™ Flooring features a tongue-and-groove joint, eliminating the need for blocking, and can be cut without pre-drilling or screwing. It is gun-nailed, resistant to moisture, rot, termites, and warping, and can withstand exposure to the elements for up to three months.

Key Features:

  • Contributes to 7-star ratings without structure modifications on second storeys
  • Double-sided functionality for tiles, carpet, or vinyl
  • Lightweight intertenancy floor option
  • 25-year product warranty
  • Australian-made and resistant to rot, termites, and moisture

For Exterior Flooring

There are also suitable sizes for external, structural sheet flooring substrates. These are great for tile finishes over floor joists for residential verandas and balconies. It’s easy to handle and available in 2 sizes: 2700x600x19mm & 2400x600x22mm.

Secura™ Exterior Flooring is a durable structural flooring substrate designed for tile finishes over timber or lightweight steel floor joists. It helps contribute to a 7-star rating and is simple and fast to install, with an advanced polymer coating on all sides for better adhesion and moisture protection on balconies and decks.

With a tongue-and-groove joint, there’s no need for blocking, and pre-drilling or screwing is unnecessary as it can be gun-nailed. The underside mesh reinforcement adds strength and impact resistance. Secura™ is a great alternative to particle board, plywood, or compressed fibre cement.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Scyon Secura flooring waterproof?

Secura is highly moisture resistant rather than waterproof. Its sealed surface removes the need for full floor waterproofing outside enclosed showers, and it resists rot, swelling and termite damage far better than particleboard. Waterproofing requirements under the NCC still apply in enclosed showers, so check the James Hardie installation guide for your application.

What is the difference between 19mm and 22mm Secura flooring?

The 19mm sheet is the interior product for wet and dry rooms inside the home. The 22mm sheet is the exterior product, used for tiled balconies and decks over timber or steel joists. Both use a tongue and groove joint and can be gun-nailed without pre-drilling.

What adhesive do you use with Scyon Secura flooring?

James Hardie specifies construction adhesive along the joists combined with mechanical fasteners. The Secura installation guide sets out the approved adhesive types, fastener type and spacing, and is available through our resources section.

Can you tile directly onto Scyon Secura flooring?

Yes. Tiles, vinyl and carpet can be laid directly onto Secura without an underlay sheet. For tiled wet areas, waterproofing requirements under the NCC still apply in enclosed showers.
