OVERVIEW

About ArmourPly Structural Plywood

ArmourPly is Big River’s structural plywood, manufactured to AS/NZS 2269 for bracing, flooring substrate and general structural construction. Structural plywood is defined by its A-bond (Type A phenolic) glue line, which is permanent and weather resistant, and by its stress grading, which is what separates a structural panel from a non-structural one. Every ArmourPly sheet is stress graded and produced under EWPAA-audited quality assurance, so its capacity is verified rather than assumed.

ArmourPly is available in stress grades from F11 to F27, in thicknesses from 7mm to 25mm (and greater on request), in standard 2400 x 1200mm sheets. F11 radiata pine panels suit bracing, residential flooring and lining, while higher grades such as F22 and F27 use dense hardwood veneers (flooded gum, blackbutt, spotted gum and Sydney blue gum) for commercial and industrial flooring. The range is termite resistant without chemical treatment.

Common applications include wall and roof bracing, structural flooring and mezzanines, internal lining, and joinery substrates. As an Australian manufacturer, Big River can advise on grade and thickness selection against your span and load requirements. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between structural and non-structural plywood?

The key difference is the glue bond and structural grading. Structural plywood uses an A-bond (Type A phenolic) glue line and is stress graded and certified to AS/NZS 2269, so it can carry structural loads. Non-structural plywood uses a less durable bond and is not rated for load-bearing use. ArmourPly is a structural panel manufactured to AS/NZS 2269.

What is structural plywood used for?

Structural plywood is used for wall and roof bracing, structural flooring and mezzanines, internal lining, and as a substrate in joinery and cabinetry. Grade and thickness are selected to suit the span and load of the application.

What thickness does structural plywood come in?

ArmourPly is available from 7mm to 25mm in standard 2400 x 1200mm sheets, with thicker sheets available on request. The right thickness depends on the application, span and load, so confirm with your trade centre or against the relevant span tables.

What stress grade of plywood do I need?

Stress grades range from F11 to F27. F11 radiata pine panels suit bracing, residential flooring and lining, while higher grades such as F22 and F27 use dense hardwood veneers for heavy-duty commercial and industrial flooring. Match the grade to the structural demand of your project.
