THE PROJECT

The Challenge

This gorgeous north facing waterfront location offers premium mixed development land at affordable prices. Located mere minutes from Maroochydore CBD, the Sunshine Cove Estate will provide ample space for up to 6000 people to live and work. For the project Big River supplied extensive, durable timber products to complete the 8km boardwalk that circles the lakeside. These included hardwood poles, bearers, joists, handrails and timber decking. Pre-treated spotted gum timber decking with a protective coating was selected for its durability and aesthetics in the frequently damp environment. The boardwalk is one of the project’s standout features, connecting the estate to nearby Sunshine Plaza, Maroochydore CBD and Cotton Tree.

Big River's Solution

Big River supplied spotted gum decking – a Class 1 durability hardwood with natural resistance to decay and marine borers. The naturally durable species eliminated the need for chemical treatment while providing the warm aesthetic the community wanted.

The Result

The boardwalk has become a popular community asset, with the spotted gum developing a natural silver-grey patina that blends with the coastal landscape.
